Julie Major studied at the Royal Academy and has exhibited in London, Belgium, Germany and Spain. Mixing materials like plaster, resin, felt and steel, her sculptures are intricately crafted and emotionally charged. Hinting at objects we recognize, these sculptures speak of a need for perfection and order, an emotion that can’t be explained. These are the trophies of an inner life, souvenirs from the journey of relationships with others. Encoded here are self-portraits and portraits of people, secret places. Moments of symmetry are held poised in a balance, teetering on the edge of breakdown. This is a sculptural lexicon of love, longing and separation.
